Paul-Élie GERNEZ (1888-1948) – Study of a Structured Landscape (Graphite)
-
Description:
A powerful modern work that perfectly illustrates Paul-Élie Gernez's compositional method. This graphite landscape study shows how the artist divided the space, using dense hatching and bold diagonal lines to structure the light and volumes (trees/cliffs) before moving on to color. The purple stamp of the Gernez estate is very clearly affixed at the top left. -
Brief biography:
A renowned painter and pastel artist, Paul-Élie Gernez (1888-1948) established himself as one of the most talented artists of his generation in Normandy. Characteristics:
- Technique: Original graphite drawing on period paper.
- Dimensions: 23.3 x 14 cm.
- Provenance: Artist's studio collection (purple estate stamp).
