France Signing the Preliminaries of a Peace Treaty is a print after an allegorical composition by Janet-Lange inspired by the outcome of the Franco-Prussian War of 1870, marked by the defeat of France and the heavy losses inflicted on that country.

First published in L'Illustration on March 11, 1871, two weeks after the signing of the preliminary peace treaty of February 26, 1871, this image comments on the context and consequences of this last event.

Our engraving annotated by hand "registered trademark, reproduction prohibited", very different from the engravings that we find on the net, keeps the same scenography. However, it is in color on the one hand and on the other hand the woman representing France does not have the same characters as that of Janet and the faces are different.
