Biography
Zwy Milshtein, born June 25, 1934 in Chișinău (Kingdom of Romania, today in Moldova) and died February 4, 2020 in Montreuil, is a French painter of Romanian origin.
Milshtein was born in the Moldovan city of Kishinev in 1934. He fled his native Moldova in the face of the Nazi invasion, beginning an exodus across Eastern Europe.

From 1943 to 1944, he studied painting at the Palace of Pioneers in Tbilisi (Georgia), then in 1946, in Bucharest with the painter George Ștefănescu. While Moldova came under the yoke of the Stalinist regime, Milshtein left in 1947 for Israel with his brother and mother, then went to Cyprus, where he studied sculpture with Ben-Tsvi.
In 1948, in Israel, he took classes with the painters Raitler, Avni, Ardon, and Mokady. In 1952, with Nathan Zach and David Avidan, he participated in the magazine *Likrat*, representing the new poetry in Hebrew.
In 1956, he received a scholarship from the Norman Foundation, allowing him to travel to Paris. In 1963, he exhibited his engravings at the same time as his paintings. In 1965, he published *MICROCOSME*, his first artist's book.
In 1966, he won the "Critics' Prize" for engraving, and in 1967, *DOSSIER SOLANGE* marked his first literary text. From 1986, Milshtein became interested in Digigraphy.
In 1991, Roland Topor invited him to participate in the last exhibitions of the Panique group and collaborated on the magazine *Le Fou Parle*. In 2007, he moved into his studio in Gleizé, in the Rhône.
Zwy Milshtein died on February 4, 2020.
