In 1919, Otto Schubert founded the Dresden Secession Group together with Otto Dix, Conrad Felixmüller and others. Discovered by Julius Meier-Graefe, he was introduced to the Marées-Gesellschaft, which published several books illustrated by him from 1918 onwards. Unfortunately, many of the graphics were lost during the Second World War, when the printing blocks and plates were destroyed. Schubert had his first major special exhibition in 1922 at the Alfred Flechtheim Gallery in Berlin. From 1945 onwards, he worked as a freelancer in Dresden.
His work remains a valuable part of the history of graphic art, despite the losses suffered during the war.
