Artist Biography
Lucien Fontanarosa (1912-1975) was a French painter and illustrator, born in Paris and of Italian origin. His artistic career began with an early passion for drawing, influenced by his stays in France and Italy. Trained at the École Estienne and then at the Beaux-Arts in Paris, he explored various artistic styles, including cubism and great classics such as Titian.
Recognized for his artistic mastery, he creates frescoes and works commissioned by the French state, while exhibiting regularly in Paris and internationally. His career is also marked by his commitment as an illustrator for major literary works.
Fontanarosa was elected a member of the Académie des Beaux-Arts in 1955 and received the Legion of Honor in 1957. He taught at the École Polytechnique and continued to paint until his death in 1975. His artistic legacy is celebrated for its diversity of styles and its influence on the 20th-century French art scene.
