Biography

Isaac Celnikier, born in Warsaw on May 8, 1923 and died on November 11, 2011 in Ivry-sur-Seine, was a painter and engraver whose work is deeply marked by his experience as a survivor of the massacres in the Białystok ghetto and the Birkenau camp. After the Second World War, he continued his studies in monumental art under the direction of Émile Filla, a Czech avant-garde painter. He then returned to Warsaw where he founded the Arsenal group, an artistic collective. In 1957, Celnikier settled in France, continuing to develop his art with a unique sensitivity to his historical experience.
