Biography

Claude Vanier, born Simon Abramovitch in Le Havre in 1903 and died in 1958, is a French painter known for his landscape works and marinas. After studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Le Havre, he moved to Paris where he attended various academies in Montparnasse.
Vanier won a history teaching competition and participated in the greatest Parisian Salons. Initially influenced by Impressionism, he evolved towards Fauvist tendencies, inspired by artists such as Matisse and Derain. His travels, particularly to Venice, Italy, enriched his work, leaving a notable legacy in landscape painting.

In 1929, Vanier presented his first exhibition and continued to exhibit in Parisian galleries. His painting is marked by the influence of the great masters of Fauvism, who marked a break with Impressionism through their bold use of color. His work is also marked by his travels in Italy, which left a lasting imprint on his creations.
