Collection: The Handsome Alcide
Biography
Alcide Le Beau, born July 29, 1873 in Lorient and died August 12, 1943, is a French painter influenced by the post-impressionist movement. He studied at the Jesuit college in Lorient and Vannes before leaving for Paris in 1890. He was the companion of the artist Irène Reno, with whom he exhibited at the Salon de la Section d'Or in 1912. Linked to artists such as Henri Matisse, Raoul Dufy and Albert Marquet, Alcide Le Beau, although living in Paris, found his inspiration in Brittany, as well as during stays on the Côte d'Azur, Corsica and Sicily.
His work is exhibited in several Parisian galleries and is influenced by Japonism, the Synthetism of the Pont-Aven school and post-impressionist Divisionism. He lived briefly in Switzerland from 1915 to 1921 before settling in Colombier. His work remains imbued with the landscapes he crossed throughout his life.
