A little-known artist with a fascinating journey

David Azuz (1942–2014) is one of those painters whom Paris adopted without the general public really remembering his name. Yet, his work vibrates with a rare intensity: vibrant colours, scenes of life captured on the spot, between Parisian bistros and Tel Aviv markets.
Arriving in Paris in 1958 from Israel, David Azuz trained at the Grande Chaumière and spent his life in Montparnasse, frequenting the same cafes as his predecessors from the School of Paris. But his style is unlike any other.

Montparnasse, Tel Aviv: two sources of inspiration

At Nahum Gallery, we hold several of his works: delicate engravings, paintings on paper, oils on canvas. Some capture the atmosphere of Parisian bistros, others delve into oriental markets, and some surprise with their grotesque and expressive side.
In the video, you will discover anecdotes about his training, his friendships with other artists, and what makes his palette so unique for the time.

It's up to you to discover
