Artist Biography

René Gouast, real name René Pierre Désiré Lasne, was a French painter born on August 12, 1897 in Bolbec and died on October 17, 1980 in Paris. Coming from a family steeped in art, he began his career in Africa before being deeply affected by the loss of his brother during the Second World War, which led him to interrupt his artistic practice for several years.

From 1945, he returned to painting and explored landscapes marked by bright colours and rigorous compositions, inspired in particular by his travels and his stays in Normandy and Spain.

René Gouast leaves behind a rich artistic legacy, expressed until his last days through works marked by profound introspection.
