Biography

Paul Weil (1906-1969) was a French painter born in Lunéville and died in Nancy. Coming from a wealthy family, he led a carefree and unconventional life, which is reflected in his art.
Self-taught, Paul Weil spent most of his life in Lunéville, where he found a wide variety of subjects for his works: city views, street scenes, river landscapes, especially the banks of the canal which he often painted. He was also interested in funfairs and still lifes.

Between 1939 and 1945, he stayed in the south of France in the free zone, where he painted many pictures. After the war, he returned to Lunéville with a series of paintings made in the south of France.
Towards the end of his life, Paul Weil settled in Nancy, where he continued to paint urban and canalside scenes. Although the majority of his work was in oils, he also worked in watercolour and sometimes pastel.
Paul Weil is a painter whose works capture daily life in and around Lunéville, as well as the landscapes of southern France. His career as a self-taught artist is marked by a diversity of techniques, including oil, watercolor, and pastel. His art reflects a unique look at urban life and natural scenes.
