Janusz Lewandowski was born in 1937 in Rokic and studied at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts under Artur Nacht-Samborski, graduating in 1964. Throughout his career, he actively participated in Polish artistic life, taking part in numerous workshops and conferences.

His work is characterized by the harmonious integration of human figures into the Mazovian landscape. These figures emerge naturally from the ground, becoming an extension of the environment and an inseparable element of the landscape. His paintings also feature motifs and symbols borrowed from Romantic literature, including meaningful characters and animals.

Lewandowski saw his art as a way to preserve the values and memories of his childhood, imbued with melancholy and spirituality. He saw his practice as an act of preservation and harmony, where subjectivity and personal experience merge into a poetic representation of the world.
