Geneviève Luis (1905-?), known as “Gen-Luis,” was a French post-impressionist artist. A student of Lucien Simon, she distinguished herself with her sensitive and colorful work, while playing an active role in social and artistic movements, notably within the “Cath's Arts” group.

Geneviève Luis was born on January 17, 1905, in Amiens. Of Pyrenean and Spanish origin on her father's side, her maternal family has been established in the Île-de-France region since the 15th century, particularly in Mitry-Mory. Known as “Gen-Luis,” she distinguished herself in the field of post-impressionist art.


After obtaining her baccalaureate, she continued her studies at the École Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Paris from 1924 to 1931, where she attended the studio of Lucien Simon, of whom she was one of his favorite students. She continued her training at the Zing School of Frescoes from 1931 to 1932.


A member of the Social Teams from 1925 to 1948, Geneviève Luis played an active role as leader of the Catholic Action of Fine Arts group, which would become “Cath's Arts” under the direction of Father Paul Buffet. Her work, characterized by a post-impressionist approach, covers a variety of subjects, reflecting the diversity and richness of her artistic style.


She contributed to the enrichment of the French art scene throughout her career and continues to influence the art world through her artistic and social commitment. Her work is recognized for its sensitivity and commitment to the social and artistic movements of her time.
