Biographie
Alfred Grévin, born January 28, 1827 in Épineuil, was a French sculptor, caricaturist, draftsman, and theater costume designer. Founder of the eponymous wax museum in 1882, he distinguished himself with his humorous caricatures and his lasting influence on art and entertainment.

Alfred Grévin grew up in Épineuil, showing early talent in natural sciences and drawing. At 26, he moved to Paris and worked as a caricaturist for newspapers such as Le Gaulois and Le Charivari, also contributing to the Almanach des Parisiennes. His burlesque and humorous style quickly stood out in Parisian artistic circles.
At the same time, Grévin distinguished himself as a costume designer in the theater, dressing stars and producing plays. In 1881, he joined forces with the journalist Arthur Meyer to create the wax museum that bears his name, which opened to the public in 1882 and has since attracted nearly 800,000 visitors a year. Alfred Grévin died on May 5, 1892, in Saint-Maur-des-Fossés, where he is buried in the South Cemetery.
